Email marketing for small businesses: the most profitable channel almost nobody uses in Savannah and Augusta

While everyone fights for likes, email is still one of the highest-return channels. What to send, how often and how to start with your customer list.

In Savannah, Augusta and Columbus there are businesses with years of happy customers they never email again. They have their emails and phone numbers on old invoices but never use them. There's money waiting there.

Why email?

Because your email list belongs to you. It doesn't depend on an algorithm the way social media does. And because it works: industry studies estimate a return of $36 to $42 for every dollar spent on email marketing, and Omnisend reports up to $79 per dollar among stores using its platform (2025). Results vary, but few channels come close.

What to send (without becoming spam)

  • Seasonal reminders: gutter cleaning in the fall, an A/C tune-up before the Georgia summer, a dental cleaning every six months.
  • Useful tips: "3 signs your roof needs an inspection after a storm."
  • Offers for loyal customers: make them feel special.
  • Before-and-afters of recent jobs in their area.
  • Requests for reviews and referrals.

How often

For most local businesses, once or twice a month is enough. Better a little and useful than a lot and boring.

How to start this week

  1. Gather your customers' emails (invoices, forms, WhatsApp) in one place, ideally a CRM.
  2. Ask permission: "Would you like to get tips and offers once a month?"
  3. Write in each customer's language. If your list is mixed, segment it into English and Spanish.
  4. Send your first email with a tip and a simple offer.
  5. Measure how many opened, how many clicked and how many reached out.

Email isn't "old-fashioned"

Many business owners think digital marketing means being on Instagram and that email is a thing of the past. It's the other way around: social media attracts new people and email brings your regular customers back. Both are pieces of the same system.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a lot of contacts to start?

No. A list of 100 real customers is worth more than thousands of purchased contacts.

Can I buy email lists?

It's not recommended. They're usually low quality, hurt your sender reputation and can violate privacy laws.

How long should an email be?

Short and useful: one tip, one update or one offer, with a single call-to-action button.
